In
a high volume suicide prevention hi volume chat The staff is
very busy and are often in several conversations at once behind
the scenes. This sometimes makes it difficult to pay attention
to everyone. To assist the staff the Teen mentor non staff position
was created. These Menotor's are an invaluable help to the staff.
As of July 5th, 2009 all
new mentors will need to be 18 years old.
Previously
you had to be a senior in high school which means that some
are presently 17 which is why they are not listed here. This
doesn't mean we don't appreciate them because we do. In contrast
you need to be 21 to handle suicidal crisis's which you also
have to be to join the staff. Once TM's turn 21 they are trained
to become full staff members here.

"Here at Lauras playground
we have done something never before on any T/S site.
First we instituted suicide prevention, with a well trained
staff of moderators,
As time progressed we felt the need to add Teen mentors,
they can relate to
our younger users and help the mods understand the teen
world today, remember
how it was when it was 1968 and you were a teen lol.
The teen mentors are very much an intergrible part of
the LP chat operations,
while not staff they are allowed to talk behind the scences
with staff and
advise us to things we may miss, the mentor program was
one of the hardest things
that was ever pushed thru laura and get approved.
The mentors have gone on to show us great value, and their
work on this site
is not forgotton, instead it is celebrated, this is the
only site I know of that
allows such things, while for legal reasons I can't name
you all, (wish I could)
the mentors here have become invaluable to this site and
they shall remain so."
Teen Mentors are examples for our teens
and show teens that they are not alone. They always consult
with staff when advising teens. The experience they gain here
will help them become the leaders of tommorrow. I am very proud
of our Teen Mentors here.
